John Henry Ficken Jr. was born on 6 February 1925 at Chattanooga, Tennessee to John Henry Ficken Sr. and Mary Gladys Barkley.  He married Frances Lorraine Swope on 13 June 1943 at Trenton, Ga.

Pvt. John H. Ficken, Jr., 20, son of Mrs. F.M. Cary, 107 North Lovell Street and husband of Mrs. Frances Swope Ficken, 222 South Seminole Drive, who was previouslyreported missing in action with an infantry unit since D-Day, was listed killed in action on that date, according to official information received by the family. A student at Baylor School before entering the army in June, 1943, he went overseas in December of the same year. He is survived by his wife, parents and three sisters, Marjorie, Betty and Doris Ficken, all of Chattanooga.
