Mrs. Sarah Louise Millsap, Box 52, Gordo, Alabama
My dear Mrs. Millsap,
It is with extreme regret that I am writing you concerning the death due to enemy action of your husband, Sergeant John F. Millsap, 34364222, of Battery C, 465th AAA Auto wpsn. Bn. On April 3, 1945 somewhere in Germany. Sergeant Millsap was buried somewhere in Holland in a United States Military Cemetery with full military honors. A Chaplain of the Protestant Faith officiated at the Funeral Services. Captain Vonderau, Commanding Officer of C Battery, expressed deep regret to me at the loss of Sergeant Millsap. He rated him as one of his most valuable men. Sergeant Millsap was extremely well liked by all, and his loss will be keenly felt. I counted him as one of my best faithful church members and a very fine man and faithful Christian. We could always count on him at our Protestant Services in C Battery. Sgt. Millsap had received three Bronze Stars for meritorious achievement and a Divisian Citation.
I know Mrs. Millsap, that your heart is heavy with grief over the loss of your beloved companion. I wish that I could lessent hat grief. The loss of some of our finest men seems to be the price fo victory over a cruel foe who would have enslaved the world if given the opportunity. Your husband died in the great cause of Freedom and Liberty for all nations and people.
Very Truly yours, Thomas R. Atkinson, Captain, Chaplain Corps
