John Edward Abbott was born in Bradley County, Tennessee, the son of John C. Abbott and Sallie Wilson. He enlisted 8 Oct 1942 at Ft Oglethorpe, Georgia. He served with the 157th Infantry, 45th Division. Pvt Abbott was returned from Italy.

Pvt. John E. Abbott, 22, son of Mrs. Sallie Abbott, Route 2, Tunnel Boulevard, was killed in action in Italy, April 8, his mother was notified last week by the War Department. Before entering the army in October, 1942, Pvt. Abbott was employed here at Blanchard’s Handle Factory. He attended Eastdale School. He went overseas in June, 1943. His wife, the former Miss Etwell Dean Summers, lives in Brainerd Hills. He is the brother of Mrs. Viola Bearfield, Misses Greda, Mildred and Clara Abbott, Cpl. C.L. Adams, Seattle, Wash.; Sterl, Dewey and Richard Abbott.
