John D. Allred was born in 1923 in Tennessee, son of William Harvey Allred and Emma Verden Handy. He lived in Calhoun Co., Michigan, when he joined the Army on Feb. 4, 1943 at Kalamazoo, MI.

Pfc. J.D. Allred, 21, has been missing in action in France since June 29, his sister, Mrs. Jones Stout of 864 Lafayette avenue, has been informed. His last letter, written June 19, reached his sister on June 29, and she believes that he had just arrived in France when it was written. The son of Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Allred of Jamestown, Tenn., he came to Battle Creek to make his home with his sister after his graduation from the Jamestown high school. He was employed by the Kellogg Co. when he entered the army in February, 1942. He trained at Fort Eutis, Va., and Camp Rucker, Ala., with an anti-aircraft unit, before going to England in October, 1943. A brother, Dennis Allred, and a sister, Mrs. Knox West, live in Muncie, Ind., and another sister, Mrs. Oval Turner lives in Albany, Ky.
