Sergt. Forestmaster John Charles Meeh, aged 36 years, died early Sunday morning at Fort El Reno, Oklahoma, October 13, 1918 of influenza pneumonia. He was born in Knoxville, Tennessee and was survived by his widow Emma and two children, 1107 Sevierville Pike, Knoxville. Sergeant Meeh had been in the U.S. Army for about 15 years. He served with the 5th Cavalry from June 1902 to June 1904, the 12th Cavalry from April 1907 to April 1913. He was a member of the local lodge of Elks. Sgt. Meeh of the Quartermaster Company was returned to his hometown on October 17th and funeral services were held Saturday morning, October 19, 1918 at his home on Sevierville Pike. Interment was in the Knoxville National Cemetery. He was buried with full military honors.
