Jesse Sims was born Athens, McMinn County to W.H. and Elizabeth Sims. He entered the service in the spring of 1918 in Athens and trained at Camp Sevier in Greenville, South Carolina. He sailed to Europe on May 7, 1918. He died of wounds received in action November 1, 1918 at the Base Hospital #12 in France. He was initially buried November 3rd in the city of Roun, France
