Sgt. Jesse E. Harville of the U.S. Marines, has been killed in action in the South Pacific, his mother, Mrs. W.H. Rogers of this city, has been notified by the War Department. Sgt. Harville enlisted in the Marine Corps in June, 1941. He was at Pearl Harbor when the Jap sneak attack was made, and later participated in the battle of Roi Island in the Marshalls. He is believed to have been killed in the battle of Saipan Island.
Surviving are his parents; two sisters, Juanita at home and Mrs. Robert Leonard of Kingsport; and a brother, Jack Harville, Phm2c, U.S. Navy, who a few weeks ago received the Presidential Citation for action in the Guadalcanal area while serving on a P-T boat.
