Specialist 5 James William Knight was born on November 21, 1949, and was originally from Rockwood, Tennessee. He served his country in the Vietnam War as a grader operator in 137th Engineer Company, 39th Engineer Battalion, 45th Engineer Group, 18th Engineer Brigade. His tour in Vietnam began on April 18, 1970. On September 11, 1970, SP5 Knight was killed under hostile conditions in Quang Ngai province, South Vietnam; he was 20 years old at the time of his death. SP5 Knight is buried at Dry Hill Cemetery in Roane County, Tennessee, and is memorialized on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on Panel 7W, Line 55.
