James William Bailey was the son of James Henry “Bud” Bailey and Gertrude (Gertie) M. Campbell.

James Bailey served on the LST 172. He is buried in Tennessee.

Memorial services for James W. Bailey, seaman first class, will be held at the Paw Paw Holley Baptist Church. Seaman Bailey, who died by accidental drowning Jan. 24, was accorded a military funeral by the Navy, with burial in a National Cemetery in the Southwest Pacific. Pictures of the funeral were sent to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Bailey, and sisters, Miss Harriet Bailey and Mrs. Nina Pollard, all of Kodak. Seaman Bailey entered the Navy Thanksgiving Day of 1942. He was last home in March, 1943, and had seen almost a year of foreign service at the time of his death.
