Sergeant James T. Gray was born on August 14, 1940, and was originally from Chattanooga, Tennessee. He served his country in the viet War in the United States Air Force as a member of 817th Troop Carrier Squadron, 3615th Ops Group, 315th Air Division. Sgt. Gray was killed in a plane crash over Thailand on April 24, 1965, at the age of 24. He is buried at Chattanooga National Cemetery in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and is memorialized at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on Panel 01E, Line 108. The following is a tribute for Sgt. Gray:

James, the last time I saw you was when you came to visit us in Wichita, KS in 1964 before you transferred to Japan. Less than a year later daddy got the word you had died. What a sad day. I was only 16. I wish I could have known you as an adult, there’s so much I wish I could say, but we’ll have to wait until eternity. I think you and daddy and now Mom must be having a tremendous reunion.
