James Joseph Overbay was the son of Albert Rubin Overby and Ada Louise Godsey.
He received his basic at San Diego, California and was stationed at Treasure Island, San Francisco in 1943. He died on 28 December 1944 in the South Pacific.

James Overbay was returned from overseas. He is buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in Missouri together with 3rd Off. Stephen E. Anderson, 1st Lt David G. Arnold, Ch.Engr. Louis C. Christensen, Master Edward MacAughey, 1st Engr. William A. Marmont Jr., RM1C Alexander A. Oglesby and AB Robert J. Walloch.
