Specialist 4 James Franklin Watson was born on June 3, 1932 in Middlesex, Virginia, and was originally from Chattanooga, Tennessee. He served his country in the Vietnam War in the United States Army as an infantryman in C Company, 1st Battalion, 501st Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division. His tour began on March 25, 1968. Five months later, on August 25, 1968, SP4 Watson was killed under hostile conditions in Thua Thien province, South Vietnam; he was 36 years old at the time of his death. SP4 Watson is memorialized on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on Panel 46W, Line 25.
