James Douglas Shiflet was the grandson of the late Fairwick and Adeline Carmack Shiflet and the late Joe and Sudie Guy West, and the son of the late Jim and Sarah West Shiflet. He had one sister, Mossie Harding, of Knoxville, and one brother, Mack Shiflet, of Morristown. He had four brothers that are deceased, Clayton, Marshall, David, and Henderson Shiflet.
Company K, 331ST Infantry, 83rd Infantry Division
Sgt. Shiflet was killed in action in France. He went overseas in June, having served a year in the U.S. Army. He was returned from St. James-Avranches, France and laid to rest August 16, 1948, at Knoxville National Cemetery, Knoxville Plot B 6581
