James Clifford Kennedy was born on 5 August 1925. He was the son of James M. Kennedy and Annie Bane. Brother of Hazel Mae Kelley, Ruth Kelley, Montie Kelley, Louise Kelley and George E. Kelley.

Pfc. James C. Kennedy, son of Mrs. Annie Kennedy, East Main Avenue, was killed in action recently on Okinawa. Private Kennedy, was but 16 when he enlisted four days after Pearl Harbor, in 1941, but told recruiters here that he was 18. His ruse was never learned by the Army and he served in four major campaigns, the battles of Attu, Kwapalein, Leyte and Okinawa. He went overseas in April, 1943. Private Kennedy is survived by his mother; four sisters, Misses Louise and Ruth Kennedy, Mrs. Mae Kelly and Mrs. Floyd Clabough and one brother, George Kennedy, all of Knoxville.
