James Chester Jeffers was born on 25 July 1919, the son of Horace Thomas Jeffers and Sallie Brooks.
He was killed in action on 22 May 1944 in Italy.

Pfc. James C. Jeffers, son of Mr. and Mrs. H.T. Jeffers of Elk Valley, Tenn. was killed May 26. He entered the armed forces two years ago last month. Besides his parents, there are seven sisters and one brother surviving, namely: Pfc. Vester Jeffers; Mrs. May Boling of Jellico, Tenn. Mrs. Lora Perkins of Yancy, Ky., Mrs. Etta Lewallen, Mrs. Annie Perkins, Miss Allie Jeffers and Mrs. Edna Jeffers, all of Elk Valley. Also surviving is his friend, Miss Fay Lewallen.
