Jack Warren Hammel was born on 5 May 1918 in Caryville, Campbell County, Tennessee, the son of Archie Warren Hammel and Maude Wilcher Richards. Died non Battle 27 August 1942, Walter Reed Hospital, Washington, D.C.
He is buried at Greenwood Cemetery, Chattanooga, Hamilton County, Tennessee.

Private Jack Hammel, of Chattanooga, died yesterday morning at Walter Reed hospital, Washington, following a lingering illness. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arch Hammel, of 2115 Chamberlain avenue, who have been at his bedside for the past six weeks. Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. James Taylor, and his grandmother, Mrs. Isabell Hammel. His meternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. T.D. Richards, of Caryville, Tenn. also survive him.
