Hoyt Hurst Hamlett was born in Hazard, Kentucky, the son of Harry Edward Hamlett and Marjorie Mae Williams.
He completed training at the Naval Air Technical Training Center in a mid-western state in June 1944 and was transferred to a naval unit. He was killed 24 July 1945 while flying over the Korean area.
He is memorialized at the Manila American Cemetery, the Philippines
