Pfc. Howard V. Norvell was killed in action April 12 in Germany and a brothers, Pfc. James O. Norvell, received a knee injury during the battle of Manila. They are the son of Mr. and Mrs. H.O. Norvell, 2043 Maryville Pike. Another son, Pfc. Eugene E. Norvell, is in the Philippines. Howard entered service June 4, 1943. He was a member of Vestal Methodist Church. He played football before graduating from Young High School. “A job has to be done and we all are needed,” he said in his last letter, written eight days before he was killed, to his parents. He was the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Tomlinson, 701 Young High Pike.
