Seaman 2c Howard Franklin Crawford was born in Virginia, the son of John Mitchell Crawford and Mollie Parker Catron.
He was killed in action on 26th of October 1942 in a naval engagement off Santa Cruz Island in the South Pacific. He died while manning his machine gun post in the thick of the battle. He was buried at sea. He is remembered on the Tablets of the Missing Manila American Cemetery, Philippines.
