Pfc. Houston C. Akins, son of Stanley C. Akins, 2108 East 24th Street Place, was killed Feb. 19. A paratrooper, he was with American forces in Italy when he was killed. Pfc. Akins, who would have become 21 on March 4, attended East Lake Junior High School and was working on the Happy Valley Farms when he volunteered for the Army in December. 1941. Overseas for 22 months, he first was stationed in England. He participated in the invasion of North Africa and was with American forces in Italy when killed. Young Akins is survived by his parents; seven sisters, Mrs. Lela Brotherton and Mrs. Dorothy Harris, both of Baltimore, Md.; Mrs. Nina Anderson, Route 3, Rossville; Mrs. Anna Ruth Bentley and Mrs. Mary Burgess, both of Route 4, Rossville; Miss Doris Akins and Miss Norma Jean Akins, both of Chattanooga; two brothers, Jack and Bobby Akins, also of Chattanooga.
