Hollis “Red” Welch was born on 17 September 1916, the son of John Jackson Welch and Nancy Christine “Crissie” Jackson. He married Wilma L. Holland in 1941 and were the parents of Judith Diane Welch.

Wilma Welch of R.R.5. Needmore rd., has learned from the War department that her husband Staff Sgt. Hollis Welch of the Ninth Army, has been officially reported dead after having been missing in Germany since April 3. The War department telegram listed him as having been killed on that date. Sgt. Welch entered service in August, 1941 and has been overseas since last July. Surviving with the widow are a child and the mother, Mrs. Christine Welch of Mayland, Tenn.
