Hobart Hudgens was born in Saint Clair, Hawkins County, TN to Samuel Joseph Hudgens and Celia E. Berry. He entered the service on 27 February 1817 at Johnson City, TN and was assigned to the Depot Brigade (Casual Detachment). He trained at Fort Oglethorpe, GA., El Paso, Texas and Fort Sill., Oklahoma. He was killed by a railroad train at the age of 19 at Trenton, N.J. Buried near Bulls Gap, TN on 6 October 1918
