Herbert Neal Hollis was born in Chattanooga to Herbert Neal Hollis and Frances Louise Rope. He was married with Wilma D. Robertson. Father of James Willliam Hollis.
He was stationed at Fort Ord., Calif., in an anti-aircraft unit in 1943. Before going into the army he was with the Herron Iron Foundry at Chattanooga.

Pvt. Hubert N. Hollis Jr., 22 son of Mr. and Mrs. H.N. Hollis, 609 Cypress Street, was reported killed in action in Belgium on December 19. Pvt. Hollis was inducted into the army in November, 1942, and he went overseas in April, 1944.  He is the brother of Mrs. Charlcie Byrd, Frances and Rita Hollis.
