Lance Corporal Haywood Wade Tipsy, Jr. was born on May 26, 1947, and was originally from Chattanooga, Tennessee. He served his country in the Vietnam War in the United States Marine Corps, as a machine gunner in E Company, 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines, 3rd Marine Division. He was killed in action from an artillery explosion in Quang Tri province, South Vietnam; he was 20 years old at the time of his death. LCpl. Tipsy is memorialized on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on Panel 26E, Line 73.
