Charles D. Markland of 314 S. East Street has received word that the body of his son, Private First Class Harry C. Markland, 25, will arrive in Johnson City Thursday a.m. at 9:52 o’clock. P.F.C. Markland entered service in February 1941 and received his basic training at St. Petersburg, Florida, Kansas City in Missouri, Salt Lake City in Utah, Savannah in Georgia and in New York. He was shipped overseas in January 1945 and saw action through France and was killed in action in Germany on March 21, 1945.
His brother, Technical Sergeant George Edward Markland was a prisoner of War in Germany and liberated by the Russians.
