Funeral services for Sergeant Grady Stanley, age 25, whose body arrived in Johnson City today, accompanied by a military escort, will be conducted at the Lower Tiger Creek Presbyterian Church of which he was a member. Sergeant Stanley has three enlistments credited to his record with a total of five years and four months of duty. He enlisted June 18, 1945 and received his basic training at Camp Blanding, Fla. He was sent to Germany where he stayed 13 months. He was discharged January 5, 1947 and re-enlisted in June of that year. During this enlistment hes pent three years in Japan. He was again discharged May 5, 1950 and re-enlisted June 7 of that year at Camp Stoneman, Calif.
He was flown from there to Korea on September 26, 1950, and sereved with Headquarters Company, Second Battalion, Seventh Calvary Regiment of the First Cavalry Division. He had been in Korea 13 months when he was killed in combat near Sinchon, North Korea on October 8, 1951.
He attended school at Tiger Valley and was a former employee of the local plants. He also worked in Kingsport and Detroit, Mich. Survivors are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Stanley of Route 2, Roan Mountain; two brothers, Earl Stanley of Roan Mountain and Gutch Stanley of Hampton; one sister, Mrs. Leona Street of Roan Mountain; two nephews and two nieces.
