Gerald Wayne Davidson was killed while piloting his helicopter from the town of Cao Lanh. He graduated from Middle Tennessee State University in August 1962, after receiving his commission from the college ROTC unit. The Distinquished Flying Corss was awareded to him posthumously. In part, the citation accompanying the award stated: “Lieutenant Davidson fought with every means at his disposal to save his helicopter and assist fellow crew members. Lieutenant Davidson’s actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Army and reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.”
