George Maze Day was born in Norma, Tennessee. He was the son of Obediah Dyer Day and Flora Shannon. The family moved to Clearfield in Utah in 1942, as defense workers. Pvt. Day attended school in Tennessee and had been overseas only a short time when he was killed in action in Germany.
