George Edward Ray was born in Knoxville, Tennessee. He was the son of George Edward Ray and Nettie Una Tate. He married Ola Mae Hogan and the couple had a son, Fredrick Hogan Ray. He enlisted on April 17, 1942, in Camp Forrest, TN.
He died non battle and was initially buried at Castelfiorentino Cemetery at Castelfiorentino, Italy and reburied at Florence American Cemetery in Via Cassia, Italy, G, 10, 23
