Private First Class George E. Johnston, 17th Regiment of the United States Army, was killed in action in Korea on October 1 – hardly a month and a half after re-entering the armed forces – relatives have been notified. A graduate of Science Hill High School in 1947. Johnston was the son of Mrs. Daisy Johnston, 320 Hamilton street, city. He served 18 months with the Army during 1947-48, and was discharged in December, 1948. He attended East Tennessee State College, having reentered the Army September 19, 1950. A sister, Charlotte Johnston, also survives. While in high school, Johnston served as a Reserve Officers Training Corps Captain.
