Gano Ellis McPherson Jr. was born in Nashville, Tennessee, the son of Gano Ellis McPherson Sr. and Minnie Mai Robinson. He married Betty Carlene Kimzey in 1944 and was the father of Sandy Gerry Ellis McPherson.
S/Sgt McPherson was killed when his plane with serial number 44-8640 crashed over the North Sea returning from a food supply mission to Holland. Memorialized at the Cambridge American Cemetery, Cambridge, England.
