James Thomas Freeman, Cocke County, TN died in Tripoli of meningitis while serving with the Air Force on 30 May 1952.

Cocke County has lost one of its most popular young citizens. Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Freeman of Newport received a telegram from the War Department Saturday that their son, J.T. Freeman, had died while serving with the Air Corps in Tripoli. Cause of death was meningitis. J.T., 20, is a graduate of Cocke County High School and entered the service November 10, 1950. He had been overseas approximately 70 days at the time of his death. The Airman Third Class had been declared Airman of the Week on different occasions by his officers and and had been classed as an excellent soldier. Funeral services are not complete, pending the arrival of the body. J.T. is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Freeman, and sister Fonda, all of Newport. His father is a member of the Newport Police Force.
