Frederick “Fred” Roselle McNabb was born on 2 November 1923 in Weiser, Idaho. He was the son of William Oliver McNabb and Mamie Morgan Simpson.

Pvt. Fred McNabb, captain of the Bradley High School Bears football team in 1943, was killed in action in Germany on April 16, according to a telegram received by his aunt, Mrs. Carlos Roberson, of Carolina Street. Pvt. McNabb, son of Mr. and Mrs. W.O. McNabb, Zion City, Ill., made his home with his aunt and Mr. Roberson until his graduation from Bradley last spring. Following his graduation he entered the University of Tennessee, where he was studying at the time of his induction in November, 1944. He took his basic training and was in an infantry division with the Seventh Army at the time of his death. Pvt. McNabb had a brother, Lt. Claude McNabb, pilot of a B-29, who was killed in action over Italy almost a year ago.
