The Knoxville Journal, August 19, 1944:Cpl. Joseph Franklin Bass, 21, formerly of Knoxville, was killed in an automobile accident near Cheyenne, Wyoming, Aug. 14. He was stationed at Ft. Warren, Wyoming. Entered service Jan. 24, 1943. Former member of Stair Tech High School, ROTC, United Order of Golden Cross Commandy No. 1072, Methodist Church, Alcoa, Tenn.Survivors: parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.R. Bass, Norfolk, Va.; grandfather W.F. Gardner. The body arrived in Knoxville at 2 p.m. Friday over the L&N Railroad and will be taken to the home of a cousin, Mrs. J.E. Hartsell, 324 East Churchwell Avenue Saturday morning. Funeral service 2 p.m. Sunday at Rose Chapel, Rev. Glenn Lipps officiating. Interment New Gray Cemetery.
