Corporal Franklin Delano Ratliff was born on July 11, 1948, and was originally from Chattanooga, Tennessee. He served his country in the Vietnam War in the United States Marine Corps, as a rifleman in L Company, 3rd Battalion, 26th Marines, 3rd Marine Division. He was a two-year veteran on the Marines, and his tour in Vietnam began on July 19, 1967. Nearly one year later, Cpl. Ratliff was killed under hostile conditions on July 3, 1968, in Quang Nam province, South Vietnam. He was 19 years old at the time of his death. Cpl. Ratliff is buried at Chattanooga National Cemetery in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and is memorialized on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on Panel 53W, Line 4.
