Finis Chesley Clark was born in Houston, Tennessee, the son of John Ewing Clark and Nannie Page Herndon. His mother lived in Erwin, Unicoi County.

Clark is buried in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Erin, Houston County, TN.

The Erwin Record, March 2, 1944:
A message had been received of the death of Finnis Chesley Clark, on February 21, at the naval hospital, San Diego, California. His mother, Mrs. John Clark of Route 1, Erwin was notified.

Funeral services for Finis Chesley Clark, 17, were conducted from the Camp Ground Church by the Rev. Geo. Davenport and Rev. Carl Davis of Erin. Young Clark, who was serving as an apprentice seaman with the United States Navy, died  at the Naval Training Station in San Diego, Calif., last Monday night following an attack of pneumonia developing with the measles. Clark volunteered in the Navy about seven weeks ago and was completing his boot training. He was born and reared in Houston County attending school in Erin. Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Clark, of the Camp Ground community; three brothers, Cpl. James Clark stationed in the Army in Deleware, Ewing of Detroit; and Hugh of Erin; two sisters, Mrs. Walker Claxton and Miss Nellie Clark, both of Erin. Burial was in Cedar Hill.
