Ernest Paul Goforth was born 15 January 1920, the son of Paul Forest Goforth and Hattie Rector. He attended school in Rockkwood, Tenn., and entered army duty in November, 1942. He was overseas approximately two years. Holder of the Combat Infantry Badge, he was a former employee of the Thompson Coal Company in Rockwood.
Private First Class Goforth was assigned to the 184th Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division. He was killed in action on 4 May 1945. At that time, the 7th Infantry Division was engaged in the battle for Okinawa in the Ryukyu Islands. He is interred at E,0,286, Honolulu Memorial Cemetery, Hawaii.
