Elmer Orlander Welch was born on 26 June 1917 in Union County, TN. He was the son of Pleasant R. Welch and Minnie Jane Fielden, husband of Margeret. Brother of Freda Mae Welch, Clyde Benton Welch, Samuel Andrew Welch, Helen Ruth Welch, Hubert Lee Welch, Beulah H. Welch, Juanita Pauline Welch and Ruby Leona Welch. Both his parents died in the 1930’s. Elmer and his wife Margaret resided in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1940.
He enlisted on 24 March 1941 at Fort Thomas, Newport, Kentucky.
He was missing in action on 28 April 1944, when his ship was sank USS LST-507 in the Engish Chanel. He is memorialized at Cambridge American Cemetery in England.

Pfc. Elmer O. Welch, brother of Miss Freda Welch, of 218 Leonard Avenue, has arrived safely at an undisclosed destination overseas, his sister has learned. Private Welch formerly was stationed at Fort Devens, Mass. He has been in service since March, 1940.
