Edward Walden Lane was born 16 April 1896, Bearden, Knoxville, Tennessee, son of Anderson Franklin Lane and Louisa Sands. He answered the call to the colors on September 4, 1918. As a member of Company I, 57th Pioneer Infantry, was stationed at Camp Wadsworth, SC, for military training. Sailed on overseas duty September 27, 1918, and while on the transport en route to France died October 8, 1918. He died at the age of 22.

Buried at Piney Grove Cemetery, Amhurst, TN

His half brother Anderson Franklin Lane died while in service during World War II.
