Edward Raeburn Shugart was born on 26 August 1917 in LaFollette, Tennessee, the son of Edward Raymond Shugart and Katherine May Farmer. He was married to Hazel Norma Hill and father of Edward Raeburn Shugart III and Freddie Shugart.

Sgt Shugart was returned from Bari, Italy. He is buried at the Knoxville National Cemetery, B, 6282.

Sgt. Edward R. Shugart Jr., husband of Mrs. Hazel Shugart, was killed in action on Oct. 4. He was stationed with the 15th Air Force in Italy. The War Department informed his wife he was killed in a raid over Munich. He was a nose gunner on a B-24 Liberator. He had been in service about seven months and overseas since August. Sgt. Shugart was a member of the Baptist Church at Pruden and was formerly employed by the Pruden Coal & Coke Co. Besides his wife he is survived by two sons, Freddie, 2 and Edward, 4.
