Edward Briggs Carroll was born on 7 October 1907, the son of Robert Elias Carroll and Delilah Jane O’Kain. He was married to Anne Donnell. Pvt. Carroll was killed accidentally at Dakar, French West Africa on 20 January 1945. A member of the Army Air Forces, he entered the service in September, 1942, and had been overseas two years. A native of Dickson County, he had lived in Knoxville and Nashville prior to entering the service. He had been engaged in the insurance business in Knoxville.

Pfc. Edward B. Carroll, husband of Mrs. Ann Donnell Carroll, 1106 Caruthers Avenue, was killed January 20 in Dakar, French West Africa, his wife has been notified by the war Department. Member of the army air forces, Private Carroll entered the service in September 1942, receiving his training at Camp Luna, N. Mex., and Kansas City, Mo. He had been overseas for the last two years. Private Carroll is the son of Mrs.W.H. Harris of Nashville.
