Earnest Hanson was the son of Walter Hanson and Lillie Henry. According to a 1930 Census his mother was widowed, when Earnest was 5 years old.

Private First Class Earnest Hanson, age 18, of Fountain City died in the Panama Canal Zone. He was repatriated back to the United States after the war and funeral services were held at Rockford Baptist Church on December 10, 1948, and burial in Clarks Grove Cemetery, Maryville, TN.

Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Lillie Hanson, Knoxville, 3 sisters, Mrs. Raymond Atchley, Knoxville, Mrs. Ralph Smith, Mount Olive, Mrs. Ralph Malone, Rockford, 2 brothers, Pfc. James M. Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and Cecil Edward Hanson, Knoxville.
