Pfc. Earl Smith, 19, was killed in action in France July 29, the War Department has notified his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Frank Smith of Jonesboro, route 3. The young soldier who had been with the infantry division overseas since May 3 of this year, entered service March 12, 1943. He trained at Fort Jackson, S.C., and Camp Atterbury, Ind. Surviving besides the parents are two brothers in service, Sgt. Bill Smith, serving in England and Cpl. Walter Smith, in Italy.
