Donald Eugene Coffey was born on 12 February 1924 in Saltville, Virginia. He was the son of Roy Temperance Coffey and Olive Pearl Hurt.
He Died 19 June 1945 in the American invasion of Okinawa Island.

He was a passenger on the U.S.S. LST 280 received on 3 February 1944 from Adv.Base, NavTraCtr., Lido Beach, LI, NY, sailing to the United Kingdom. He was transferred to the U.S.S. LST 288 for duty on 13 April and transferred to the LST 372 on 28 April 1944.
