Delmar Donald Miles was born at Elk Creek, Missouri, the son of Charles Miles and Rosella Mae Alspaugh. He married Miss Ruth Benton on March 13, 1943 at Minter Field Chapel, Bakersfield, California. Delmar Miles received his 2nd Lieutenant’s commission and wings of a pilot after graduating at Roswell (N.M.) Army Flying School.

Lt. Miles flew in the 8th Air Force out of Great Britain and was shot down over northern Germany. He was POW for 13 months in Stalag, Luft 1.

Word has been received here that Lieut. Delmar D. Miles has been lost in action over Germany since April 11. He was a pilot of a Flying Fortress and has been overseas since February, 1944. Lieut. Miles is the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. C.J. Miles of Victoria, Texas. His wife is the former Ruth Benton, daughter of Rev. And Mrs. Jesse F. Benton of Coronado Beach, Florida, and formerly of this city. Rev. Benton is a former pastor of the local Central Methodist church.

1st Lt. Delmar D. Miles, who was a prisoner of war in Germany, arrived home Wednesday. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. C.J. Miles, 504 . Jecker.
Lt. Miles was a bomber pilot and his plane was shot down over Germany on April 11, 1944.  About May 1 of this year he was released.
