Clyde Taylor was born in 1922, the son of Marion McKinley Taylor and Della Ruth Johnson. Pfc Clyde S. Taylor enlisted on 18 December 1940 at Fort McPherson, Atlanta, Georgia.

His division commander, Major General A.R. Bolling wrote a letter to his parents, explaining what happened. This is an extract of it: “Clyde, a radio operator and driver for Battery B, was a member of the forward observation party which had been attached to Company F, 334th Infantry, for the attack on Matzerath, Germany, on February 26, 1945. As they were advancing toward their objective, they were subjected to shelling by enemy artillery. As they were preparing to enter a building for shelter, the building was struck and your son was wounded by shrapnel in the chest.  He was given immediate first aid and removed to an American Military Hospital for further treatment. Although he was given the best of medical care, the wound resulted in his death two days later.”

The exact location of the military hospital is still unknown.

He is buried at Netherlands American Cemetery, Margraten, Netherlands, A, 5, 32
