The body of Sergeant Clyd H. Lampkin, son of Mrs. Rosa Smith of Morristown, route one, will arrive in the United States within the next few days, and will later be returned to the home of his mother in Hamblen county. Sgt. Lampkin answered his call on October 30, 1942. After 14 months trainin gat Camp Walters, Texas, he was sent to Australia, from where he engaged in battles from New Guinea to Luzon Island in the Philippines, being killed in action on Luzon on May 13, 1945.
Prior to entering the service, he operated the South Cumberland Service Station, known as the Elmer Reece place. He also was employee of the TVA, where he was working at time of induction.
