Clyde was the son of Elbert Sevier Scalf and Rosa Bell “Rosie” Carroll. He was married to Gracie Lee Hayes and they had two children: Clyde, Junior and Lottie. Clyde Jr served in Vietnam with the United States Marine Corps and retired with the rank of Master Gunnery Sergeant.
