Claude Lee “Junior” Austin was born on 13 October 1924 in Nickelsville, Virginia. He was the son of Robert Lee Austin and Mary Phynetta “Nettie” Pannell.
Died Non Battle 13 July 1945 near Roseberg, Germany when the motorcycle on which he was riding collided with an on-coming vehicle. He died the following day. He entered service April 8, 1943.

Funeral services for Pfc. Claude Junior Austin, former Borden Mills employe who died in 1945 of injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident while on military duty near Rosenberg, Germany, will be held at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Austin, Route 6. Burial will be in the City Cemetery, with members of Hammond Post No. 3, American Legion, serving as pallbearers and conducting military rites at the grave. Private Austin was a member of Company C, 43rd Tank Battalion. Surviving, in addition to his parents, are four sisters, Mrs. Sam Ketron, Mrs. Lovell Bishop, Mrs. Ella Mae Rogers and Miss Mildred Austin, and three brothers, Walter, Earl and Glen Austin, all of Kingsport.
