Claude Honeycutt was born in Virginia, the son of Julius Honeycutt and Mary Elizabeth Frye. His younger brothers William B. (Bill) served in the United States Navy during World War II and Robert later served in the United States Army.

Claude called Johnson City, Washington County, Tennessee home. He enlisted in the United States Army on 3 September 1942 at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia. Claude was assigned to Company L, 3rd Battalion, 19th Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on Mandog, Davao del Sur Province, Davao, Mindanao Island, Philippine Islands (Western Pacific) on 3 June 1945.
